Hey John,
I’m Eddie Geller, and I’m running for Congress here in my home state of Florida. If you’ll indulge me for just a few paragraphs, I’d like to tell you why.
Here’s something you might not expect: I used to be a comedian. Yes, really! And let’s be honest, it’s so easy to throw up our hands in despair when confronted by everything that’s going on in our world (more on that in a minute). So, to keep people engaged, and to keep them in this fight alongside me, I try to make folks laugh to give them a breather from the madness. In fact, to do exactly that, I even made this launch video — watch it now (beware the extremely catchy jingle) [[link removed]] !
Now, on a more serious note: I’m a millennial. And almost all the other millennials I know share this feeling of existential dread. Dread that the planet is warming beyond our control. That we can’t afford health care. That our parents got the good jobs and affordable housing, and we’ll be stuck working in the gig economy and paying 50% of our income in rent for the rest of our foreseeable lives.
And then, when we look at Congress, we don’t see ourselves represented. We see millionaires who are more concerned with satisfying their wealthy donors than ensuring the wellbeing of everyday Americans.
Well, quite frankly, I’ve had enough.
I believe that good people need to run for office — because we need good people in Congress who are willing to step up, take risks, and do good things. People who understand the sheer weight of their responsibility to their district, their neighbors, and their communities.
That is the kind of representation I want to bring to Florida’s 15th District. Not an empty suit or a corporate puppet — somebody real, with their finger on the pulse of their community, their heart in the right place, and their elbow somewhere between their wrist and their shoulder.
Because listen, we’re running out of time . The planet is running out of time. Nobody knows this better than Floridians, and no state in the country is more at risk from the effects of climate change. We can do what needs to be done — you know, actually helping people who need it, like our representatives are supposed to — by winning Florida’s 15th District. Nothing less than the future of our species, and how we choose to care for our neighbors and fellow Americans, is hanging in the balance.
So, what do you think? Will you join me? It’s not gonna be easy, but if we pull together like I know we can, we can deliver real leadership for FL-15 to Congress. We’re building this grassroots campaign from the ground up, and we need your help — can you make a donation of any amount now? [[link removed]]
Stay tuned — this is just the beginning. I’m so glad to have you on board.
— Eddie
