Roe v. Wade is in more danger than ever. We need your help.
[[link removed]]Dear John,
This Wednesday, the Supreme Court refused to block a Texas law that bans
abortion two weeks after a missed period, which is before most people know
they’re pregnant. This six-week ban effectively criminalizes all abortion care
in the state. It also authorizes private citizens to act as bounty hunters and
enforce the law by suing anyone who provides assistance to a person seeking
abortion care after six weeks.
This law isn’t just an attack on the rights of pregnant people—it’s blatantly
unconstitutional, violating fifty years of precedent and the principles
established by the landmark decision Roe v. Wade in 1973. What’s more, the
Supreme Court made this decision without a full briefing, oral argument, or
hearing.
TAKE ACTION
[[link removed]]Beyond harming pregnant Texans, the Supreme Court’s refusal to block the Texas
abortion ban sets a dangerous precedent for the future. If this law stands, it
will provide legal precedent for abortion bans across the country. Already,
conservative lawmakers in other states are moving to implement similar
legislation.
We need to fight back against the anti-abortion movement if we want to protect
the rights of pregnant Americans. We can start by demanding that our lawmakers adopt a proactive abortion agenda.
A proactive abortion agenda includes:
* codifying the right to abortion into law,
* appointing judges with pro-abortion rights records,
* preventing government interference,
* making abortion affordable for all,
* ensuring everyone has access to the full range of options for abortion care,
* protecting patients and providers, and
* integrating abortion into the broader health care system.
Take a stand for abortion rights; ask your representatives to adopt a proactive
abortion agenda today.
