** Chattanooga Budget Public Input Sessions

The Chattanooga DSA has been working with Concerned Citizens for Justice ([link removed]) to reduce the police budget, with a goal of shifting police funding to housing, transportation, and children and family programs instead. Mayor Kelly's proposed budget includes a raise for police.

Be on the lookout for our official statement on the proposed budget as well as talking points you can take to these public input sessions. We will need your voice to help let the council know we oppose increases in police funding.

The Chattanooga DSA is a member of mutual aid group CALEB ([link removed]) (Chattanoogans in Action for Love, Equality, and Benevolence). This week, CALEB’s Education Taskforce received a grant to pilot a program at Orchard Knob Elementary. The new program aims to implement restorative justice practices at the school, helping to end suspensions, expulsions, and the school-to-prison pipeline. Congratulations to the folks at CALEB, Orchard Knob, and the Chattanooga DSA who helped make this happen!
