My Sisters and Brothers, you already know that our voting rights are under vicious GOP attacks – mainly aimed at restricting Black Americans from exercising our power at the ballot box. Just look at all the restrictive bills passed by Republican-led state legislatures since November 2020.  

Say it with me, “The Trump-sheep GOP will NOT stand in our way of creating a more perfect union for all Americans!”  

Today, Congress is likely taking a major step in shutting these racist attacks down by voting on the John Lewis Voting Rights Act! Voting = power and power is the people. If we don’t keep our narrow Democratic majority in the House, we run the risk of having our voices silenced.

The first African-American woman in Wisconsin history to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congresswoman Gwen Moore, took her official oath of office on January 4, 2005. She served in the Wisconsin State Senate from 1993-2004. Before her election to the Senate, Congresswoman Moore served two consecutive terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1989-92.
