Dear MoveOn member,

Republicans need to flip just one seat to put Mitch McConnell back in
charge of the Senate—and historically, the president's party almost always
loses seats in the midterm elections.

We cannot let that happen. So we've come up with a plan to defy history,
and we wanted you to hear about it from us first.

During this August congressional recess, MoveOn is launching a $1.2
million advertising campaign to go after four beatable Senate Republicans
on one of their biggest political vulnerabilities: tax breaks for the
rich.

Polling shows that an overwhelming majority of voters support raising
taxes on the rich. And these four Republican senators—Ron Johnson, Marco
Rubio, Rand Paul, and Chuck Grassley—have voted to cut taxes for the rich
again and again.^1,2

But to make this plan work, we're not just running TV ads. We are also
pairing the ad campaign with on-the-ground grassroots actions, showing up
at town hall meetings, and billboards to generate “earned" media attention
and make sure voters are hearing our message everywhere they go.

But listen, John: A $1.2 million ad buy is a huge deal for a
grassroots-funded group like MoveOn, and we need your help to make sure we
have the budget to get these ads on the air and keep them up for as long
as we can, on top of our usual work to hold the GOP accountable.

Will you chip in $5 a month to help keep the ads and
grassroots actions going for as long as necessary to stop Mitch McConnell
from retaking control of the Senate in 2022?

[ [link removed] ]Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

[ [link removed] ]No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

The August recess before an election year is a critical time to get our
message out and frame the debate on our terms.

Remember the Tea Party wave of 2010? Republicans launched that campaign
during the August recess the year before by flooding town hall meetings
and pushing false attacks on the Affordable Care Act.

This time, we are going on offense. Polling shows that over 60% of
Americans think the wealthy and corporations pay too little in taxes, and
only 20% think they pay too much.^3 Those are brutal numbers for
Republicans who have voted again and again to cut taxes for the wealthy
and corporations.

However, to make sure that our ads are persuasive with the voters we need
to reach—and that your donation won't be wasted—we tested them with
various segments of voters, and the results were exactly what we're
looking for. The ads were most powerful with Independents, suburban women,
Asian voters, and Latinx voters, exactly the swing voting blocks that will
determine the outcome of this election.

But what's really going to make these ads pop is the grassroots organizing
that we'll use to reinforce the message. We know that voters can tune out
wall-to-wall TV ads, but by getting on local TV and in the newspaper, we
can break through and make sure our message really sticks in voters'
minds.

The stakes couldn't be higher. If Mitch McConnell takes back control of
the Senate, he has already said he will block any Supreme Court nominee
put forward by President Biden. He will refuse to even allow a vote on
anything Democrats propose. COVID-19 conspiracy theorists and supporters
of Trump's Big Lie will take over key committees to push their
disinformation. And the racist, bigoted policies of the Trump GOP will
take center stage, further endangering marginalized communities.

If we can get our message out and brand Republicans as lackeys for the
superrich, we not only can stop Mitch McConnell from taking over the
Senate but also expand the Democrats' majority so we have the votes to end
the filibuster and take action on climate, Medicare for All, and, of
course, making the rich pay their fair share.

Will you chip in $5 a month to keep our powerful ads on the
air and support the grassroots actions to beat the GOP in 2022 and stop
Mitch McConnell from taking over the Senate?

[ [link removed] ]Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

[ [link removed] ]No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn's work? The GOP is launching an all-out campaign to
take down the Democratic majority in Congress and reinstall Mitch
McConnell as Senate majority leader in 2022. To defeat the GOP, MoveOn is
going all-in with TV ads, a nationwide grassroots organizing campaign, and
more.

Will you chip in to power our effort to defeat McConnell and the GOP in
2022?
