Thanks to the hard work of my fellow progressives in Congress like Rep. Cori Bush, the Biden Administration announced a new eviction moratorium yesterday that will remain in effect through Oct. 3.

This wouldn’t have happened if Rep. Bush and others hadn’t stepped up, and it shows the power of our progressive movement in the House and how Black women are at the forefront of progress.

However, the New York eviction moratorium ends on August 31st, and the new CDC guidance only applies to counties with high covid rates -- putting both renters and small-scale landlords at risk.

This isn’t nearly over. I’m calling on New York state to quickly disseminate the emergency rental assistance funds so that renters can stay in their homes and small-scale landlords can pay their mortgages.

If you’re with me, add your name to my petition calling on New York to do its part in assisting renters while not leaving families who rely on rental income to pick up the pieces. ([link removed])

As we still grapple with the uncertain future of the COVID-19 pandemic and the increased number of Delta cases, it’s so important that our state government step up and do its part to make sure my colleagues don’t have to sleep outside the Capitol again to protect families facing eviction.
