Since coming out as gay, I’ve been an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community; as a lawyer, I’ve done pro bono work representing trans individuals change their names and access medically necessary health care.
Unfortunately, some representatives are actively fighting against LGBTQ+ equality. One of those members is my opponent: Elise Stefanik.
Elise opposes the Equality Act, which would ban discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity. She also voted against legislation — authored by an out gay Afro-Latino member of Congress — to protect LGBTQ+ business owners.
During a time when Republicans are passing discriminatory anti-trans legislation across the country, it is more important than ever that we elect members of Congress who will fight for the dignity and equality of the LBGTQ+ community. Part of that mission means replacing the members who are a threat to this progress, like Stefanik.
