Monday Nature Mystery

Congratulations to Eric for correctly identifying the caterpillar of the Cecropia Moth ((Hyalophora cecropia). This giant silkworm is described as having a frosted green color with shiny yellow, orange and blue knobs over its body. At one time a common find in urban and suburban areas from Canada, south to Florida and as far west at Texas, its number are declining. Unfortunately, the introduction of a parasitic Tachinid fly used to control the Gypsy Moth populations has been an issue. The Tachinid fly parasitizes the caterpillars.
