HERE ARE 5 FACTS YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT CHILD TRAFFICKING:
① You’ll often hear about trafficking “hotspots,” but the truth is that trafficking occurs wherever there are people. Spikes in reported trafficking may also be influenced by an increased focus in that region on research, training, or an awareness campaign promoting the national hotline.
② Traffickers don't fit one stereotype. Love146 has connected with situations of trafficking in which exploiters have been family members, peers, romantic partners, educators, employers, community leaders, and clergy.
③ Children from culturally and linguistically diverse communities are more than 2x as likely to experience sex trafficking as children who identified as white. (JAMA) ([link removed])
④ Child trafficking isn't a new phenomenon. Human Trafficking has been happening forever. In 2003 the United Nations introduced the Trafficking Protocol, introducing a universally agreed upon definition of trafficking in persons. (UNODC) ([link removed])
⑤ Often, a "rescue" isn't the only or best way to freedom. Training to recognize & respond appropriately to trafficking, as well as trauma-informed spaces to heal help create pathways for more victims to exit exploitation.

VICTIMS' VOICES LEAD THE WAY
This year, the UN's theme ([link removed]) for World Day Against Trafficking in Persons is about listening to and learning from survivors of human trafficking. Learning from victims’ experiences and turning their suggestions into concrete actions will lead to a more victim-centered and effective approach in combating human trafficking.

============================================================
Founded in 2002, Love146 journeys alongside children impacted by trafficking today and prevents the trafficking of children tomorrow. We connect the dots to understand how vulnerability operates in the lives of children, and intervene both to care for survivors who have been harmed and ultimately to prevent harm from happening in the first place. Our work is achieved through the power of relationships and collaboration, listening to those with lived experience and diverse backgrounds, scaling proven practices, and challenging the systems that leave children vulnerable. Our prevention and survivor care work has impacted more than 65,000 young people. Our core commitment is to do what is best for children.
