Dear allies,

With our country seeing another increase in COVID-19 cases – especially in Massachusetts ([link removed]) – we need to ensure that frontline workers, low-income communities, and communities of color are not sidestepped (again) in the fight for protection and for equitable resources. The pandemic has exposed countless inequalities faced by Black and brown communities, health care workers, child care workers, hospitality workers, grocery workers, etc.

Now, workers and community groups who continued to keep our communities going during the pandemic are calling on the Massachusetts legislature to use the American Rescue Plan funding responsibly and for the benefit of those disproportionately impacted by the pandemic — not large corporations. Join us on July 27 at the State House or online via Facebook ([link removed]-) to demand that the estimated $5.3 billion that Massachusetts is slated to receive is distributed equitably to those most impacted by the pandemic.

Massachusetts needs a state Child Tax Credit for kids 0-12.
After COVID-19, many parents lost their jobs to care for kids, especially in Black, brown, and low-income communities with many essential workers and high transmission rates. Now is the time to create a $600-per-child Massachusetts Child Tax Credit. Massachusetts just got $5 billion from the American Rescue Plan. The tax credit would cost $700 million per year. The expanded federal child tax credit provides $250 to $300 monthly per child. The Massachusetts Child Tax Credit would add $50 monthly per child on top of that. Call/Email Your Legislator!
Riders and workers across Massachusetts deserve representation on the MBTA Board, and a low-income fare that enables us to equitably access and afford our public transit systems. Call and email your legislator ([link removed]) , and urge them to support better public transit for riders and workers across the state.
SIGN NOW: The Boston City Council and the Mayor must take bold action on clean and healthier buildings and jobs in the City of Boston.
Join us in asking our elected officials to pass a reinforced and updated Building Emissions Performance Standard (BEPS) ordinance that will invest in our community, create good jobs and lessen the impact of storms, flooding, and warming temperatures. Sign the petition today! ([link removed])

State programs, like Mass Save, which are designed to work with residents and businesses to improve their energy efficiency, have failed to service many of the people most in need. Sign the petition ([link removed]) to urge Governor Charlie Baker, Lt. Governor Polito, and Environmental Secretary Katie Theohorides to reject any plan that doesn’t center the needs of environmental justice and low-income communities, and increase access and remove barriers for the underserved and language isolated communities across the state.
It’s time to build back better – with unions!
This week the Greater Boston Labor Council launched an exciting new campaign that urges elected officials and candidates across Greater Boston to build back better with unions. The campaign sets a platform that amplifies the needs of working families in an area who were crucial in the recovery of the COVID-19 pandemic. The campaign also plans to release videos on equity, opportunity, and stronger communities, while calling for protection and expansion of workers’ rights and a focus on racial justice, immigrant rights, and climate justice for all in our communities.
