Another busy week is complete! To keep you updated, I want to provide a brief overview of the important things taking place in District 59.
But first, a reminder that COVID-19 vaccines are available to all Floridians aged 12 and over . To find a vaccination site near you, please visit floridahealthcovid19.gov [[link removed]] . Or simply text your zipcode to 438829.
Andrew In the District
I began my week by touring the Pepin Distributing facility as they prepare for a busy summer. What started as a small company now serves many of Tampa's most popular bars, restaurants, grocery stores, and craft breweries. It was great meeting with the Pepin team and learning about their positive economic impact on our community.
Next, I connected with fine folks at High 5, formerly known as Brandon Sports and Aquatics. The local nonprofit focuses on providing swim lessons to children of all backgrounds and abilities while emphasizing drowning prevention techniques. Thank you, High 5, for working to keep our children safe!
Later I had a great visit with HCA's Brandon Regional Hospital. The medical staff spoke about the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine in preventing the spread of new variants. Our local healthcare workers have done a fantastic job responding to the pandemic, let's help them out by getting vaccinated. If you or someone you know has not been vaccinated, click here to schedule a FREE appointment.
Lastly, I visited the amazing kids and staff at AMI Kids in Tampa. AMI Kids is a local nonprofit committed to positively impacting the lives of at-risk children and adolescents. Ensuring our children are well-positioned to be productive members of society is crucial -- I look forward to with AMI and other advocacy organizations to craft a legislative agenda that prioritizes juvenile justice.
Child Tax Credits Hit Bank Accounts
This week, thanks to President Biden and the Democrats, child tax credit payments began hitting families' bank accounts.
The monumental legislation is projected to cut childhood poverty in half, allowing parents to spend more time with their children -- and less time stressing over the financial burdens of raising a family.
As I've said before, this is why elections matter. When given an opportunity to govern, Democrats use their power to deliver for working people and families. Because prioritizing their interests isn't just the right thing to do -- it's also a winning strategy.
An Update Regarding Red Tide
I spoke with the Governor's office this week about directing additional resources to Hillsborough County for Red Tide cleanup. Doing this would improve air quality and increase oxygen levels in the water, thereby minimizing the amount of fish dying.
Currently, there is no direct connection to the Piney Point situation; however, it certainly is not helping matters, and we must hold those responsible accountable. In the meantime, please try to keep your fertilizer usage to a minimum.
Team Andrew's Back-to-School Drive
Just a reminder that now through August 10, we are accepting donated school supplies for low-income children and families in Hillsborough County. All donations can be dropped off at 6152 Delancey Station Street #205, Riverview, FL. Thank you to everyone who has donated so far!
