Another busy week is complete! To keep you updated, I want to provide a brief overview of the important things taking place in District 59.

Out and About

I began my week by connecting with the fine folks at High 5, formerly known as Brandon Sports and Aquatics. This local nonprofit focuses on providing swim lessons to children of all backgrounds and abilities while emphasizing drowning prevention techniques. Thank you, High 5, for working to keep our children safe!

Next, I visited the amazing kids and staff at AMI Kids Tampa. The local nonprofit is committed to positively impacting the lives of at-risk children and adolescents. Ensuring our children are well-positioned to be productive members of society is crucial to the health and wellbeing of our community. I look forward to working with AMI Kids and other advocacy organizations to advance legislation that prioritizes juvenile justice.

I also had a great visit with HCA's Brandon Regional Hospital. The medical staff spoke about the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine in preventing the spread of new variants. Our local healthcare workers have done a fantastic job responding to the pandemic, let's help them out by getting vaccinated. If you or someone you know has not been vaccinated, click here to schedule a FREE appointment.

Lastly, I toured the Pepin Distributing facility as they prepare for a busy summer. What started as a small company now serves many of Tampa's most popular bars, restaurants, grocery stores, and craft breweries. It was great meeting the Pepin team and learning about their positive economic impact on our community.

Child Tax Credits Hit Bank Accounts

This week, thanks to President Biden and the Democrats, child tax credit payments began hitting families' bank accounts.

The monumental legislation is projected to cut childhood poverty in half, allowing parents to spend more time with their children -- and less time stressing over the financial burdens of raising a family.

As I've said before, this is why elections matter. When given an opportunity to govern, Democrats use their power to deliver for working people and families. Because prioritizing their interests isn't just the right thing to do -- it's also a winning strategy.

An Update Regarding Red Tide

I spoke with the Governor's office this week about directing additional resources to Hillsborough County for Red Tide cleanup. Doing this would improve air quality and increase oxygen levels in the water, thereby minimizing the amount of dead marine life.

Currently, there is no direct connection to the Piney Point situation; however, it certainly is not helping matters, and we must hold those responsible accountable. In the meantime, please try to keep your fertilizer usage to a minimum.
