Nearly 60 Democratic members of the Texas House left the Lone Star State, breaking quorum to avoid a vote on Republicans’ controversial election integrity bill. The dramatically-reported exodus to Washington, D.C.— complete with photos of private jets and calls for arrest by Governor Abbott — is reportedly still costing taxpayers while legislation is stalled. Texas House Rep. Jared Patterson estimates that the walkout is costing taxpayers at least $43,000 for each day the legislature is at a standstill.
