Detroit DSA is a 1200+ member funded organization. We receive no money from outside sources so we can say things like "Defund the Police" and "Abolish ICE" without losing funding, and we will always act democratically in the interests of our members and the working class! If you're able to, we ask that you make monthly contributions as they more directly benefit our chapter. Thank you for whatever amount you're able to contribute!

Friend --

This weekend, we've got a crucial Detroit for All canvass with the August 3rd Primary less than a month away.

On Saturday, our Black and Brown Alliance will be hosting an in-person Sober Happy Hour at Shatila's in Dearborn. National DSA is also putting on a pair of events we hope you can make it to - a conversation about how we can make DSA anti-racist and multi-racial, presented by Alyssa de la Rosa and David Roddy, plus our first ever DSA telethon!

We look forward to seeing you!

Solidarity forever,

Detroit DSA

Black and Brown Alliance Sober Happy Hour

Saturday, July 17th at 1PM

This Saturday, our Black and Brown Alliance will be holding our first post-Covid Happy Hour! Join us at Shatila's in Dearborn to have some pastry, ice cream, or coffee and talk with your fellow Black and Brown Comrades about life and the struggle. This is our first in person event in months and it will be great to see everybody and remind ourselves what seasoning and spices in socialist politics feels like live.

How Can We Make DSA Anti-Racist and Multi-Racial?

Sunday, July 18th at 7PM

A conversation connecting issues faced by people of color during DSA's origins and today, between the authors of “A People of Color’s History of DSA <[link removed]>” (2019), Alyssa de la Rosa and David Roddy of Sacramento DSA, and authors of two convention resolutions, #27 (Beyond 100K) <[link removed]> and #31 (Making DSA a Multiracial and Anti-racist Organization) <[link removed]>.

De La Rosa and Roddy conducted archival research and talked with founders of the people of color caucuses in the original DSA/NAM. They will present a short summary of their findings, followed by a moderated conversation with authors of resolutions #27 and #31. All DSA members welcome - for DSA to become a self-consciously multiracial and anti-racist organization, we need everyone's efforts.

Jumpstart Socialism for a New Tomorrow Telethon

Friday, July 30th at 8PM

We don't know what resolutions will be passed at this year's convention, but we know we will leave the convention with our next two years of organizing cut out for us. And that means we're going to need funds to make all that organizing happen! That's why we're kicking off this year's convention with a telethon fundraiser to Jumpstart Socialism for a New Tomorrow on Friday July 30th at 8pm ET. <[link removed]>

The telethon is a chance to celebrate the work we've accomplished so far and get ready for the work we still have ahead of us. RSVP to hear from DSA chapters, electeds, and special guests and help kick off the convention by celebrating our working class movement! <[link removed]> When we fund our own work we get to organize for the world we want, and that's how we win.

RSVP <[link removed]>

In solidarity,

🌹 Detroit DSA
