Dear Friend,

Housing justice is intimately linked to climate justice. And in the last few weeks, we’ve seen record-breaking temperatures, droughts, tropical storms, and electrical outages pummel our communities and homes from coast to coast. Climate change is not a problem of the future: it’s here now, and Congress has a huge opportunity to do something about it.

Right now, Democrats in Congress are working through a process called “budget reconciliation,” to be able to pass a bold and equitable infrastructure package without GOP obstruction. This is a historic opportunity that we can’t miss. We can stop climate change in its tracks, create millions of good jobs and homes, support care workers, and change the tide on growing inequality.

As a member of the Green New Deal Network, these are just a handful of our key priorities for the infrastructure package:

-Renewable energy gets $1 trillion

-Retrofitting public buildings, including low-income housing & schools gets $600 billion

-Expanding and electrifying public transit gets $600 billion

Right now, the Senate is moving forward with their proposal for the budget reconciliation package – but we still have room to push them and the House to invest in climate, care, jobs, and justice to the fullest extent possible.

Are you on Twitter? Use this 1-click tool to send a tweet to your representatives in Congress, asking them to fight for frontline communities and priorities in the infrastructure package.: [link removed]

Our representatives need to hear that their constituents are paying attention and demanding they do the right thing.

Solidarity,

Jayanni and the Right To The City team

P.S. Don’t have Twitter? No problem. Make a call and urge your members of Congress to support real climate, labor, and housing priorities!
