Dear John,

Our latest Empower to Plan project is live! KOMB GREEN Solutions [3], who
you supported last year at the beginning of the pandemic, is in urgent need
of your help today.

KOMB GREEN is a KENYAN ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION AND REGENERATION PROJECT
in the informal settlement of Korogocho. The local team, led by at-risk and
street-involved youth, has worked tirelessly over the past year to
transform an area of wasteland on the banks of the Nairobi River into a
community park. Every day, they provide vital services for children's play,
urban agriculture and environmental initiatives such as tree planting.

However, these unique community projects are THREATENED BY HEAVY RAINS AND
WORSENING FLOODS. In May, 40,000 Kenyans were displaced by floods and the
Korogocho People's Park was almost entirely destroyed.

KOMB GREEN needs your support to install flood defences and protect the
future of the park.

Flood Defences & Climate Mitigation

"The floods affected our emotions too, when we saw it sweep away the trees
we planted in April. We want to raise gabions and extend them along the
Nairobi River so that it will prevent the floods from damaging our People's
Park and gardens in the future." - FREDRICK OKINDA, KOMB GREEN
CHAIRPERSON

DONATE [3]

Last year, you provided the team in Korogocho with sanitary equipment, PPE
and condoms, keeping the community safe during the initial wave of the
pandemic. Now, they are calling for emergency support from you so that the
People's Park can continue to serve the community.

Your donations will not only protect the park from future flood damage, but
they will also allow the team to build on last year's projects. KOMB GREEN
will continue to distribute condoms and LEAD FAMILY PLANNING EDUCATIONAL
CAMPAIGNS with local women's groups, as well as painting two murals in the
community to raise awareness of gender-based violence and increase family
planning uptake.

Former sex workers like Debra, now an active member of KOMB GREEN, will
also record radio broadcasts to discuss sexual health and reproductive
rights. Debra is looking forward to seeing KOMB GREEN deliver workshops in
local schools on these themes, while encouraging more children to plant
kitchen gardens and learn about urban agriculture.

KOMB GREEN faces unprecedented challenges in mitigating the impacts of
climate change and protecting their park from flood damage, while
continuing to provide their community with vital services. PLEASE SUPPORT
THEM IN PLANTING THE SEEDS OF CHANGE IN KOROGOCHO.

_"Thank you to Population Matters... due to the condoms distributed before,
we will now be able to create more awareness on family planning and take
these programmes to schools.”_

Thank you,
