Hi John,

Throughout June and July, Europe’s leading football (or soccer) talent are
competing in the European Championship 2020 tournament ⚽️ A 12-month
postponement resulted in the games finally kicking off on 11 June. After
an action packed group stage, the final 16 teams are through to the
knockouts.

While we've been cheering on our players, we've also been providing our
own analysis on participating countries — but we're scoring their
performance off the pitch as global leaders in the fight against COVID-19
and extreme poverty.

Our G7 post match coverage [ [link removed] ]shows a disappointing first half from
leaders hogging the ball on global vaccine access. And while Cristiano
Ronaldo scored his 109th international goal, and became joint top scorer
in the history of men’s international football, [ [link removed] ]the stats on European
leaders are pretty underwhelming.

One teacher's mission to give back to his community

In the lead up to the Global Education Summit in July, ONE supporters and
activists are [ [link removed] ]campaigning for quality education for every child,
because not all classrooms are created equal. And Mamadou Diakhaté, a
teacher from Senegal, is working to change that.

A project that began as cleaning up classrooms while students were at home
during COVID-19 lockdowns transformed into a global effort to renovate and
improve classrooms across the country. “I’m trying to give back to the
country that gave me so much,” Mamadou said. Here's his inspiring story:

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit women and girls especially hard: from
threatening girls’ education and taking a toll on women’s work, to

Spotlight on Global Activists: Alice Zanin, Italy

Keeping world leaders accountable for their actions is key to changing the
world for the better. And now, during a global health crisis like
COVID-19, it’s more important than ever to make sure world leaders follow
through on their promises to enact change.

That’s where our ONE Global Activists come in. They meet and speak with
politicians and changemakers regularly to hold them accountable for the
issues most important to them.

Alice Zanin, one of our Italian youth ambassadors, told us why it’s so
important to talk about global health and vaccine access, even while Italy
is still struggling with COVID-19:
