Just weeks after True the Vote's Dan Gelernter demonstrated that the debate over voting bills before congress was a classic bait-and-switch ploy, we see his analysis ([link removed]) being proved true in the news.

"Suppose S1 was designed to get a different bill passed, by making the other bill look moderate," Dan wrote. And that's the frame that was used for the "dissent" among Democrats. That's now the exact frame being used ([link removed]) to bash Mitch McConnell as intransigent for his opposition to the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.

In this week's newsletter, Dan explains the few differences and many similarities between the two pieces of legislation, and why either would be a disaster for the country. That's why it is so important to bring "the heat."

** Eyes On | John Lewis Voting Rights Act

Exactly as True the Vote predicted, leading Washington Politicians are using S1 as a political straw man that allows them to pursue what they’ve always wanted—federal control over state election law—while still looking moderate.

The first politico to pull this play in public is Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, who argued in an op-ed on the 6th that S1 is too extreme to unite a country tired of partisan politics. What we need is something we can all get behind—like the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.

The pundits on TV and in the papers have been completely suckered, and some are wringing (or seeming to wring) their hands over what this means for vote reform in America. Don’t be fooled: Under the hood, the John Lewis Voting Rights Act is just as toxic as S1. It is extreme legislation that strips states of their control over their own election laws. The only way to make the John Lewis Voting Rights Act look moderate is to put it side by side with something even more extreme—and that is what S1 is for.

The John Lewis Voting Rights Act would not be a victory for compromise. It would be a victory for election racketeering and nationwide vote fraud.

Actress Jennifer Lawrence: ‘Radical’ GOP ‘Dismantling’ Rights to Vote
From Newsbusters - Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence brought the drama on Thursday when a video of her promoting the Democrat Party’s brazen attempt to federalize state and local elections was dropped online. Her theatrical chops were on full display as she acted as if she’s non-partisan and that the “radical wing of the Republican Party” is “actively dismantling Americans’ rights to vote,” instead of what they’re really doing, which is protecting the integrity of elections.

Fixing the Electoral Count Act Is a Good Idea
From National Review - Mona Charen argues at the xxxxxx that Democrats should focus their energies away from the doomed H.R. 1 and the John Lewis Act, and push for revisions to the Electoral Count Act (ECA). Ed Kilgore in New York magazine makes a similar case for revising the ECA. Not all of Charen’s suggestions are well-considered, but the project of revising the ECA to head off potential problems in 2024 is worthwhile.
