Apply for a Spot in the Next Giving Project Cohort and Attend an Info Session

HFJ’s Giving Project funds social change, builds community, and develops leaders. We’re looking for 25 passionate people to join the next cohort that will kick off in January 2020. BIPOC and LGBTQI-identified people are especially encouraged to apply.

The Giving Project brings a multiracial, multigenerational, cross-class group of people together for six months. Together, they raise and give out money to organizations dedicated to building power for social change in Minnesota.

Program staff and Giving Project alumni will host information sessions on October 10th, 19th, and 31st. Register here <[link removed]>. Applicants who can’t make information sessions can contact Senior Program Officer, Learning and Leadership Allison Johnson Heist: [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> or 612-400-6264.

The priority deadline for this cohort is Thursday, October 31, 2019.

Headwaters is Hiring a Director of Individual Giving

The Director of Individual Giving (DIG) reports to the Executive Director and leads and manages donor organizing and development staff. The DIG will create our individual development strategy and contribute to the execution of the strategic plan. The DIG will make sure that we achieve our ambitious fundraising goals through values-aligned, mission-driven donor organizing.

Donor organizing is a call to action and a spirit of building community with donors of all levels of giving. At Headwaters, we prioritize relationships over transactions, encourage meaningful giving, and train donors to be effective ambassadors and organizers within their communities and spheres of influence.

For a full job description, including salary and benefits, visit our website <[link removed]>. The deadline to email application materials is 5 p.m. Central on Thursday, October 31st, 2019. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis—applicants are encouraged to submit their materials as early as possible.

In the Community

BIPOC Consultant Directory from Nexus <[link removed]>

“Over the years Nexus has fielded many requests about various types of BIPOC* consultants. This database is our response to the many requests, and we hope it is helpful to both consultants and people/organization seeking knowledge and expertise from BIPOC communities. This being said, please note our disclaimer below. Enjoy!

A special thanks to all of the consultants and organizations who helped inform us about this database, former intern Omar Leal for starting this work and to current intern Keliyah Perkins for getting this live.

*NOTE: We use the term BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) to recognize the many identities in the community.”

Another World is Possible: Five Decades of Revolutionary Art with Ricardo Levins Morales <[link removed]>

October 5th - November 22nd

CTUL: Minneapolis

“This exhibit features fifty years of movement history as told through my art. As someone who’s been in the struggle for a few minutes I am very aware of how our collective histories get stolen, erased, distorted or romanticized beyond recognition in ways that make them irrelevant (or even toxic) to today’s rebels. Those movements – like today’s – were mostly youth-led, and my hope is that with this exhibit we can open a space/time portal which young activists from different eras can reach through to touch each others hands, hear each other’s stories, listen to each others fears, and applaud each others victories. We set up times for inter-generational conversations, panels, performances and hands-on activities during the exhibit highlighting art, justice, organizing and collective healing.”

This celebration is a reunion to uplift all of those who have been building solutions to end mass incarceration, including those currently or previously incarcerated, their families, and community who care. The BRIDGE Prison Justice initiative has been going six years strong, which started with incarcerated leaders in our community who built a BRIDGE with their family and friends on the outside. We know our communities continue to do the work failing systems cannot do, so it is crucial we celebrate, support, and invest in those who continue to do the invisible and honorable work.
