$50,000 One Week Match Challenge

Dear John,
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a
profound and far-reaching effect on people nationwide and on every
facet of life.
The Alzheimer's disease community is
no exception. Deaths from Alzheimer's were 16% higher than expected in
2020. Caregivers and other loved ones have endured emotional distress
as a result of pandemic-related challenges, such as the shutdown of
adult day care centers and the inability for families to visit or to
communicate with relatives in long-term care settings.
Despite these unprecedented
challenges, we continued to make strides in the fight against
Alzheimer's - but we still have much to learn about COVID-19 and
its implications for dementia care and support. That's why this
$50,000 One-Week Match Challenge is so timely. Will you help us raise
the $50,000 we need to meet this generous match by making your first
gift today?

Without question, the disproportionate
effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Alzheimer's community were
apparent early on. People living with Alzheimer's are more likely to
contract COVID-19, and their caregivers have the daily struggle of
additional cleaning precautions and social distancing. These are just
some of the many examples of how the pandemic has impacted our
community.
The Alzheimer's Association was there
to support those affected by Alzheimer's from the moment the pandemic
first struck. Calls came into our 24/7 Helpline from caregivers asking
how to support their loved ones in following personal hygiene
guidelines, how to fill days once taken up by now-closed adult day
care programs and how much to explain about the pandemic that upended
their lives and deprived them of familiar faces.
With vaccines rolling out around the
country, we're finally seeing a light at the end of this COVID-19
tunnel. But unfortunately, Alzheimer's will persist and continue,
sadly, until we can end this devastating disease. That's why it's more
important than ever to provide care and support and accelerate the
critical research that may provide a dementia-free future. Please
don't miss this opportunity to double your impact on the fight to end
Alzheimer's. We really need your help to reach our goal.
