June conference aims to prep volunteers to lobby for carbon price

As we make the big push to include carbon pricing in climate legislation
that moves forward in this Congress, our June 12 conference is designed
to help you be an effective advocate for this powerful tool, which can
put us on track to reach net zero emissions by 2050.

In addition to the stellar lineup of keynote speakers — Jerry Taylor,
Jasmine Sanders and Adele Morris — our breakout sessions feature a wide
range of people and organizations who will talk about why they support
carbon pricing. You can choose to hear from faith groups, mayors,
doctors, students, outdoorsmen, labor unions or environmental justice
advocates.

The conference also includes the option to attend one of four Sunday
seminars. Two of these sessions are new this year: Energy Innovation
Act: Messaging and Policy Details, and Understanding the Conservative
Perspective—Critical to Achieve the Mission.

Something else that's new this year: "We're using Airmeet as our
conference platform this June," said Alison Kubicsko, CCL's National
Events Manager. "It has more opportunity for attendees to connect to
each other, and it will allow for much easier transitions between
conference sessions."

Join Alison and CCL's Amy Bennett for a Q&A next Tuesday

Media: Students talk carbon pricing on radio

Earlier this year, New Hampshire Public Radio announced a contest for
students in grades K through 12 to submit a short audio clip on the
topic, "There Ought to be a Law." Students were asked to identify a
problem and propose a law that would solve the problem. CCL volunteers
Katharine Gage, 17, and Abby Stark, 16, seized the opportunity and
produced a minute and a half piece about carbon fee and dividend. Their
entry made the top five finalists and was aired earlier this month on
New Hampshire Public Radio.

"The best part was hearing the guest, State Senator Watters, comment
positively on our proposed law, saying that it has Republican appeal and
a real chance at passing," said Katharine (shown above at left). "Abby
and I and a couple of friends had met with him on Zoom a few months ago
to ask for an endorsement of the Energy Innovation Act, which he did!"

Success through relationship building: Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton is one
of the most progressive members of Congress, but the District of
Columbia delegate initially had reservations about cosponsoring the
Energy Innovation Act. After patient and persistent relationship
building on the part of CCL's D.C. chapter, she eventually came around
and is now a cosponsor of H.R. 2307. Read more
