Rep. Doug Lamborn sued by former staffer for negligent approach to COVID safety protocol, having staff run his personal errands Just when we thought our Colorado Republican representatives couldn’t stoop any lower, Doug Lamborn manages to surprise us. According to The Denver Post, a recent lawsuit filed by Lamborn's former staffer Brandon Pope alleges that Lamborn let employees do “whatever they wanted” inside his office and required government workers to run personal errands for his family. Perhaps the most egregious allegation? The representative allegedly let his son live rent-free in the basement of the U.S. Capitol. The complaint further alleges that Lamborn regularly employed his congressional staff for the personal benefit of himself, his wife, and one of his sons, the latter of whom Lamborn reportedly let live in the Capitol basement for two weeks. When the same son in question attempted to apply for federal employment in Washington, DC, Lamborn "required Mr. Pope and other staff to show [Lamborn's son] how the USA Jobs site worked and to give [Lamborn's son] tips on completing applications for federal employment.” The lawsuit also suggests that the congressman violated the Congressional Authority Act of 1955, which prohibits retaliation against staffers who speak out against unsafe working conditions. Coloradans in the Fifth Congressional district deserve better than this. The actions of Representative Lamborn speak volumes of his character. Not only did Representative Lamborn endanger the health and safety of all of his staffers, but he also abused his power as a member of Congress for personal gain. Doug Lamborn must be pushed out.
