"Please attend and support the Duluth Community Safety Initiative press conference on MONDAY MAY 17 at 3pm at the Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial. Strong, visible support can and will translate into strong messaging to the City and the DPD. Masks and social distancing required. Feel free to bring signs."

Our Racial Justice Working Group also invites you to this event on Thursday, May 20, 6:30 PM:

"This week the DSA's Racial Justice Working Group is hosting Vinnie Cervantes from DASHR ([link removed]) (Denver Alliance for Street Health Response) which led the organizing of an alternative crisis response model for the City of Denver called STAR. Vinnie will share a bit of the history, some organizing tools, and the vision of creating community-powered public safety. We are thrilled to access his experience as we start collectively building a community based alternative to policing here in Duluth. Vinnie will give a 45 minute presentation on how STAR was organized by a coalition of community members and organizations. We will have Q&A for 15 minutes. To be respectful of his time we will be curating the questions; send question(s) to Lydia at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .

We look forward to working together to bring an alternative crisis response model to Duluth. We also invite you to stay on the call after the presentation/Q&A to talk more specifically about organizing and implementing a CAHOOTS model locally.
