Last week, in collaboration with our community partners from Michigan Liberation [[link removed]] , we launched the #FreeBlackWomxn [[link removed]] campaign– a photo and storytelling project [[link removed]] that elevates the voices of Black Michigan mothers who have experienced incarceration in support of the 2021 Black Mama’s Day Bailout [[link removed]] . The carceral state has created a family separation crisis: 80% of women in jails nationwide are mothers.
