Liz Willen Dear Reader,
During this incredibly difficult year for education (and just about everything else) we must find ways to celebrate small victories and big milestones. I hope you will join me in one of them: A big happy birthday wish to our hardworking team at The Hechinger Report ([link removed]) . We turned 11 this week – senior citizens in the world of nonprofit journalism – and many of us have been here from the very beginning.
Our mission ([link removed]) is more critical than ever, with the pandemic ([link removed]) exposing widespread inequality in education from the earliest years ([link removed]) .
This week, we bring you fresh insight ([link removed]) into new higher education research, as well as columnist Andre Perry’s clear-eyed look ([link removed]) at the controversy surrounding the teaching of critical race theory. You’ll find a robust selection of opinion pieces ([link removed]) and a close-up look ([link removed]) at ways schools are using art to help kids cope with pandemic-related trauma. If you enjoy our newsletter, please ask friends and colleagues to sign up ([link removed]) – and, even better, become a member. ([link removed]) As always, we love to hear from you.
