Mexico Honors UPenn Nursing Dean With Ohtli Award
Mexico will this week bestow its Ohtli Award on UPenn Dean of Nursing Antonia Villarruel, PhD, RN, FAAN. The award is the country&rsquo;s highest honor given to those who have helped Mexico&rsquo;s diaspora&mdash;especially, young people of Mexican origin&mdash;in developing their potential. The award signifies the path that Villarruel has opened for many: Ohtli is a Nahuatl word for path.

Nursing Innovations Fund 2021 Now Open to Action Coalitions
The Campaign for Action's Nursing Innovations Fund has rewarded inspiration for three years and is going on a fourth. Examples of Action Coalition proposals that have been rewarded include projects that support the wellness of Filipino communities; encouraging nurse entrepreneurs; and addressing the mental health needs of farmers. Deadline for the new round of funds focused on improving health equity is June 30.

Hawaii Report Breaks Down Nursing Workforce Education Levels
In its efforts to encourage more nurses to obtain bachelor&rsquo;s or more advanced degrees, Hawaii has assessed its workforce. In a newly released report, the Hawaii State Center for Nursing notes how many employed RNs have associate degrees and how many have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing&mdash;and the barriers that keep nurses from furthering their education.

The National Center for Complex Health and Social Needs seeks, and will fund, six organizations to each host a regional event that focuses on ideas and initiatives that create and support person-centered, integrated systems of care. Selected organizations will receive $5,000, and subject matter and logistical support. Deadline to apply: May 19.

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation&rsquo;s Systems for Action program seeks proposals to measure the impact of collaborations across the nation&rsquo;s fragmented medical, social, and public health systems&mdash;partnerships that allow organizations to better share in the costs, benefits, and influence that govern these initiatives.
