** Latest News and Updates
------------------------------------------------------------

I have often spoken out in defence of older people and their lack of advocacy in Parliament in the last 10 years and in response to this I am hosting my second Over 55’s Information and Advice Fair in Melksham Assembly Hall on Sunday 6^th October 2019. At 55 people are certainly not in the older bracket but they do start to retire then and look for new social networks - this is the age Age UK and Saga use hence the event.

This event follows on from my previous event in Chippenham which was attended by over 400 residents.

Organisations attending the event include: Pensions Wise, Alzheimer’s Support, Building Bridges, Help for Heroes, Prostate Cancer, Cancer Research UK, Royal British Legion, Immigration Advice Service, Melksham & District Flowering Arranging Society, Nordic Walking UK and many more local groups and societies.

This event will be open to the public from 15:00-17:00 and light refreshments will be available throughout. I hope to see as many residents from Melksham and the surrounding area as possible at this event.

For more information please contact 01249 704465 or [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) and please pass on this information if you know anyone who may like to come along.

Great to be part of the celebrations to mark the 800th anniversary of Melksham’s market charter. His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester, unveiled a commemorative plaque outside the Town Hall on Friday morning.

The artwork and projects done by Melksham schools on display in the Town Hall were absolutely fantastic - the tea staining of paper took me back a bit to my school days. Lots of other celebrations took place over the weekend and I hope local people enjoyed them.

Following my Facebook competition to find the cutest pet and celebrate new legislation which will increase the maximum sentence for animal abuse, I am thrilled to announce the winner was Strawberry the therapy Pony with a total of 50 likes from all of you. Strawberry does an amazing job working every day with children with additional needs and people with dementia and has a cheeky little character!

Sone weeks ago made a visit to see Strawberry and owner Heather Watson at Wiltshire Equine Assisted Learning to present a certificate and bottle of House of Commons Champagne. Well done Strawberry!
UK and US sign landmark Data Access Agreement. Last night Home Secretary Priti Patel signed an historic agreement that will enable British law enforcement agencies to directly demand electronic data relating to terrorists, child sexual abusers and other serious criminals from US tech firms. This Agreement will each year accelerate dozens of complex investigations into suspected terrorists and paedophiles.
