How is it that in 2021, the residents of the
nation’s capital are essentially second-class citizens?
That statement might surprise some
people, John, but it’s true. The
population of Washington, D.C. is 47% Black, pays more in taxes
than the residents of 22 states, and pays more per capita to the
federal government than every other state. It’s time they got a
vote in Congress.
Simply put, D.C. Statehood is a civil rights
issue.
