At the peak of school closures in April 2020, 1.6 billion students globally were forced out of classrooms. In the beginning of 2021, that number still hovered around 700 million. Such unprecedented time online, with little adult supervision, has accelerated the proliferation of online hate content and recruitment.

In an effort to provide parents and caregivers with the best tools and information to support students engaging in virtual learning, we continue to revise our guide Building Resilience & Confronting Risk in the COVID-19 Era. Produced in partnership with American University's Polarization and Extremism Research and Innovation Lab (PERIL), this guide is designed to help caregivers, parents, educators and others who regularly interact with young people to recognize and respond to radicalization in the COVID-19 era.
