John -- A.G. Holder laid it all out in an interview with The Dallas Morning News :

"Texas Republicans are waging a multi-pronged war on democracy . It's all about holding onto power -- and if they hurt voters in the process, they don't give a damn…
They’ve come up with diabolical ways in which they’re trying to [prevent] people from getting to the polls and get there in a really easy way."

He was speaking specifically about a bill passed by the Texas Senate that would ban extended voting hours, close polling places in communities of color, and allow partisan poll watchers to record certain voters ( "it's really an intimidation tactic," the A.G. said). But he could have been talking about any of the 361 state-level bills to restrict the right to vote.
