Tackling rogue Landlords through licensing

Explaining that London boroughs need stronger enforcement powers to raise standards and protect tenants, Cllr Rodwell, London Councils’ Executive Member for Housing and Planning ( [link removed] ), spoke to the BBC on using selective licencing schemes:

"The government should do away with the bureaucratic burden of requiring councils to gain the Secretary of State's permission before starting a selective licensing scheme. Boroughs are clearly much better placed to understand conditions in the local private rental sector and to assess the benefits of implementing selective licensing.”

London's inaugural Carer Festival

Carers across the capital celebrated the unique role they play in the lives of millions of Londoners at a landmark new event.

The first ever London-wide Carer Festival, organised by the London Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (LondonADASS) and supported by London local authorities, voluntary groups and volunteers, took place on Saturday 21 September.

The festival was hosted by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets at Bromley-by-Bow Centre and Bob’s Park in east London.

Designed to champion the work they do in an uplifting and inspiring way, around 500 carers from every London borough and their loved ones were invited to join in the fun.
