** Comprehensive report on LBQ women shows disparities and resilience
------------------------------------------------------------
A new report by the Williams Institute provides an in-depth examination of the demographics, health, and socioeconomic status of cisgender and transgender LBQ women and girls in the U.S. Results show that LBQ women and girls, in particular LBQ women of color, experience disparities in many areas of life, including poverty, depression, criminalization, discrimination, and violence. However, they develop resilience through a variety of support systems, such as community connectedness, social support, and political engagement. Almost all (98%) LBQ cisgender women report being involved in political activities and most of them are involved in more than one issue, including women’s issues, racial/ethnicity issues, and LGBT issues.

** Williams Institute calls for improved LGBT data collection at the state and federal levels
------------------------------------------------------------
Government surveys that collect information on sexual orientation and gender identity help policymakers and service providers allocate funding and design policies that meet the needs of the LGBTQ population. Without this data, the unique needs of the LGBTQ community are often overlooked.
** Current Population Survey Public Comment
------------------------------------------------------------
The Current Population Survey provides federal data about employment and earnings, employment characteristics, job search activities, family composition, disability, and citizenship. It currently collects information about same-sex married and cohabitating couples but not about respondents’ sexual orientation or gender identity.

------------------------------------------------------------
Last week, Williams Institute Research Director Kerith J. Conron provided testimony on Nevada’s SB 109. The bill would require state government agencies to collect sexual orientation and gender identity information in surveys and data collection tools that currently ask about other demographic characteristics.
