Socialist Puerto Rican Mayor Rushes to Polo's Defense. Will Polo resign?


** Democrat Cindy Polo Doubles-Down On Anti-Cuban Bigotry As Socialist Puerto Rican Mayor Rushes to Her Defense

Democrat colleagues are “embarrassed” by her tantrum. Will she resign?

MIAMI (October 1, 2019) – Rather than apologizing, Democrat State Representative Cindy Polo has decided to doubled-down on her comments where she described Cuban elected officials as “hypocrites” after being confronted by The Miami Herald ([link removed]) about her anti-Cuban Twitter tantrum. According to the Herald, Polo’s remarks even “embarrassed some of her Democratic colleagues.” The Herald also reports that when he was asked to comment on the legislator’s remarks, Democratic House leader Kionne McGhee responded in shock, “She used those words?”

Not surprising, Polo’s anti-Cuban bigotry has drawn support from Carmen Yulin Cruz, the socialist mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico who drew widespread criticism ([link removed]) earlier this year after refusing to condemn the dictatorships in Cuba and Venezuela during an interview on Univision, as well as other local socialist activists. Responding to Polo on Twitter, Yulin Cruz told her to “hit hard,” encouraging her to continue attacking Cuban Americans.

Miami Young Republicans president Armando Ibarra issued the following statement:

“Democrat Cindy Polo was given many opportunities to apologize, instead she has doubled-down on division and bigotry with the support of her radical allies. Her comments were clear: Like other leftists, she resents Cuban Americans holding leadership positions. Polo’s tweets were not a subtle “dog whistle.” They were just a whistle that was heard loud and clear by pro-Maduro socialists like the mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico who came out of the woodwork to encourage her to “hit hard” against Cuban Americans. Do Florida Democrats believe that Cuban Americans and other Latinos should be “hit hard”?

“If Democrats like House Leader Kionne McGhee are truly embarrassed by Polo’s comments, then they should have the decency to censure her or demand her resignation, as they have done to colleagues who have made incendiary remarks targeting other minority groups. Cuban Americans are not second-class citizens. We will not tolerate double-standards or bigotry against anyone in our community.”

Demócratas están "avergonzados" por su berrinche. ¿Renunciará?

MIAMI (1 de octubre de 2019) – En vez de disculparse, la representante estatal demócrata Cindy Polo ha decidido reafirmar sus comentarios en los cuales describió a cubanoamericanos como "hipócritas” luego de ser confrontada por el Miami Herald ([link removed]) por su berrinche en Twitter. Según el Herald, los comentarios de Polo hasta "avergonzaron a algunos de sus colegas demócratas". El Herald también informa que cuando se le pidió por una reacción a las declaraciones de Polo, el líder de la Cámara demócrata, Kionne McGhee, respondió sorprendido: "¿Usó esas palabras?”

Sin embargo, no es sorprendente que la intolerancia anticubana de Polo ha atraído el apoyo de Carmen Yulín Cruz, la alcaldesa socialista de San Juan, Puerto Rico, quien fue fuertemente criticada ([link removed]) por rehusar a criticar las dictaduras en Cuba y Venezuela durante una entrevista en Univisión. Polo también cuenta con el apoyo de activistas socialistas locales. Respondiendole a Polo en Twitter, Yulín Cruz dijo que diera “duro", presumiblemente refiriéndose a que continúe atacando a la comunidad cubanoamericana.

El presidente de los Jovenes Republicanos de Miami, Armando Ibarra, emitió la siguiente declaración:

“A la demócrata Cindy Polo se le dieron muchas oportunidades para disculparse, y sin embargo, ha insistido en la división, la intolerancia y ahora hasta cuenta con el apoyo de simpatizantes de Nicolás Maduro. Sus comentarios fueron claros: Como a todos los izquierdistas, a la Sra. Polo le molesta el éxito de la comunidad cubanoamericana. El berrinche de Polo fue un mensaje anticubano escuchado claramente por sus compinches socialistas, como la alcaldesa puertorriqueña quien la alentó a “dale duro” a los cubanoamericanos. ¿Será que los demócratas de Florida creen que los cubanoamericanos y otros latinos deberían ser verbalmente atacados o golpeados?

“Si los demócratas, como el líder del partido en la Cámara de Representantes, Kionne McGhee, están realmente avergonzados por los comentarios de la Sra. Polo, entonces que tengan la decencia de censurarla o exigir su renuncia, como han hecho a otros colegas quienes han emitido comentarios desafortunados contra otras comunidades. Los cubanoamericanos no son ciudadanos de segunda clase. No toleraremos estándares dobles, ni discriminación e intolerancia contra nadie en nuestra comunidad".
