** New IDP Resources on Biden’s Enforcement Guidelines
------------------------------------------------------------
IDP released two comprehensive practice advisories this week with ILRC and NIPNLG to help attorneys understand changes that the Biden administration has announced to immigration enforcement. The two resources—one for immigration attorneys ([link removed]) and the other for criminal defense attorneys ([link removed]) —provide an overview of the key policy changes and interim priorities announced by the Biden administration so far. They also include strategies for pursuing prosecutorial discretion and sample requests.
In order to help the community understand these changes, IDP has also updated our widely-used Know Your Rights flyers and booklets in English ([link removed]) and Spanish ([link removed]) . IDP’s Know Your Rights resources explain who is at risk of being arrested by ICE and briefly describe what you can do if you encounter ICE at home and in public. If you are an experienced translator who can help update these flyers to other languages, please contact

** Eyes on ICE: Automatic License Plate Readers
------------------------------------------------------------
In response to ICE’s increased use of Automatic License Plate Readers to track and surveil people in cars, IDP has created a community resource ([link removed]) to raise awareness and inform people of their rights. This new community resource builds on IDP’s 2020 guide ICE Stopped My Car, What Are My Rights? ([link removed]) and the associated infographics ([link removed]) and practice advisory ([link removed]) . A Spanish version of this resource is forthcoming.
ICE's use of shared databases, like the one used by ALPRs, have been highlighted in a 2019 article ([link removed]) in The New York Times and are one of the many reasons why states like New York must strengthen our laws to prevent the sharing of personal information with ICE.
To learn more about the fight to end collaboration between New York's state agencies—including police—and ICE, check out the New York for All ([link removed]) campaign!
** Two victories for the Justice Roadmap Coalition!
------------------------------------------------------------
Fighting to stop the use of solitary confinement has been a key prong of the Justice Roadmap, and, late last week, we celebrated the New York State Legislature’s passage of the Humane Alternatives to Solitary Confinement Act ([link removed]) , or HALT. This long-overdue legislation will prohibit the use of isolated confinement for longer than 15 days and create Residential Rehabilitation Units (RRU) – providing programs, therapy, and support to address underlying needs and causes of behavior for people separated from the general population.
The passage of this bill is both a victory for supporters of the #HALT bill and communities across New York that have sought justice for the wrongful deaths of Kalief Browder ([link removed]) and Layleen Polanco ([link removed]) , both of whom were subject to solitary confinement at Rikers Island.
In addition to #HALTsolitary’s tremendous victory, the Justice Roadmap also launched its updated website ([link removed]) ! Head here to check out the latest from the Justice Roadmap, including the downloadable PDF of the Roadmap ([link removed]) , and be sure to stay tuned for upcoming resources! IDP and the other members of the Justice Roadmap Coalition would like to extend a huge thanks to Casa Blue ([link removed]) , MensenXOXO ([link removed]) , and kids on rocks production ([link removed]) , without whom the Justice Roadmap would not have this wonderful new home!
** Julio + Friends: A Do-athon to Rein in ICE!
------------------------------------------------------------
Last Thursday, the New York Civil Liberties Union hosted “Julio + Friends: a Do-athon to Rein in ICE,” in support of the New York for All Act ([link removed]) . Joined by SNL-writer and star of HBO’s Los Espookys, Julio Torres, attendees were treated to performances by a number of talented comedians, including Bowen Yang, John Early, Lorelei Ramirez, Larry Owens, and Sydnee Washington. Julio and the NYCLU offered step-by-step ways that viewers could demand that New York stop enabling ICE’s deportation machine. Head here ([link removed]) to view a recording of Julio + Friends, including the steps you can take in support of #NY4All!
The New York for All Act, championed by IDP, the New York Civil Liberties Union, and the New York Immigration Coalition, would prohibit New York’s state and local agencies—including police—from collaborating with ICE, funneling people into ICE custody, or from disclosing sensitive information. ** Registration for IDP's Crim-Imm 101 Training is Now Open!
------------------------------------------------------------
Join IDP on Thursday, April 15th, 2020 – 3:00 pm – 4:30 pm (ET) for an online training aimed to help defense attorneys learn the necessary information to gather from clients to work with immigration counsel. The training is virtual, free of charge, and there will be 1.5 CLE credit hours for attendance. Learn more about this upcoming training and register here ([link removed]) .
