Hi John,

A conservative sponsored bill to put kids back in schools has passed both chambers of the North Carolina general assembly. Citing CDC guidelines and other scientific based studies, the bill would require the state’s K-12 public schools to offer in-person learning. Gaining bipartisan support, the bill also allows local districts to create alternatives for teachers and caretakers at high risk for COVID-19.

The foundation of this bill is about putting children and families first. For some students, it would be their first time back in school since March 2020. However, as the bill heads toward the Governor’s desk for approval, there is already opposition. Liberal Governor Cooper has expressed his dissatisfaction with the contents of the bill.

In his opposition he cites: “Children should be back in the classroom safely and I can sign this legislation if it adheres to DHHS health safety guidance for schools and protects the ability of state and local leaders to respond to emergencies. This bill currently falls short on both of these fronts.”

This is yet another liberal falsehood in efforts to keep schools closed and families locked in. Much like the current administration, liberals swore to abide by science. However, with science saying schools should be open, liberals would now prefer to listen to their own agenda instead.

But conservatives continue to fight on. Should Governor Cooper veto the bill, there are enough votes in the assembly to override it. Schools will open, families will be heard, and it’s conservative lawmakers we can thank!

One state down— many to go.

Sincerely,

Casey
