The last year has proven to be challenging for all Kansans -- we lost our sense of normalcy, some shifted to remote work, many lost their jobs, and so much more.

But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Last week, during remarks highlighting one year since the onset of COVID-19, President Joe Biden announced a surge in the supply of vaccines to states across the country.

You might be asking, "what does this mean for vaccine distribution in Kansas?" We have your answer:

* Today marks the beginning of the next phase in our vaccination plan.
* Due to the increased supply, I am happy to announce we will be combining Phases 3 and 4 of my plan into a single phase.
* And we anticipate we will be able to move into the final vaccination phase for Kansans deemed to be at the lowest risk -- Phase 5 -- on an accelerated timeline, meeting the president's timeline of May 1.

Thanks to the commitment of the federal government to address the pandemic in a practical and common-sense way, we are one step closer to the end of the pandemic.
