The last year has proven to be challenging for all Kansans -- we lost our sense of normalcy, some shifted to remote work, many lost their jobs, and so much more.
But there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Last week, during remarks highlighting one year since the onset of COVID-19, President Joe Biden announced a surge in the supply of vaccines to states across the country.
You might be asking, "what does this mean for vaccine distribution in Kansas?" We have your answer:
- Today marks the beginning of the next phase in our vaccination plan.
- Due to the increased supply, I am happy to announce we will be combining Phases 3 and 4 of my plan into a single phase.
- And we anticipate we will be able to move into the final vaccination phase for Kansans deemed to be at the lowest risk -- Phase 5 -- on an accelerated timeline, meeting the president's timeline of May 1.
Thanks to the commitment of the federal government to address the pandemic in a practical and common-sense way, we are one step closer to the end of the pandemic. My top priority is still ensuring Kansans can get back to work, back to school, and back to a more normal way of life in the safest way.
