Friend,

March marks Women’s History Month, and it’s our chance to
celebrate all of the women who have had immeasurable impacts on
America throughout history. We want to take a moment to highlight
a few of the Caribbean-American women who have changed the
political game, starting of course with our own, Dr. Una Clarke
and Rep. Yvette Clarke!

The Hon. Dr. Clarke was born in St. Elizabeth, Jamaica, and
migrated to the United States as a student in 1958. She Clarke
became the first Caribbean-born woman to serve in the New York
City Council, and in her 10 years as a Council member, sponsored
more than 300 pieces of legislation to address issues in child
welfare, education, health, mental health, economic development,
and public safety and transportation.

Rep. Clarke follows her mother’s footsteps closely, proudly
serving New York’s 9th District and working to strengthen the
relationship between the US and its Caribbean neighbors. Will you
continue to support the work of change-makers like Dr. Clarke and
Yvette by chipping in $10 today?

Outside of New York’s 9th, Caribbean-American women are
also forging paths that are opening doors and shaking tables in
the world of politics. Glynda Carr, who also has Jamaican roots,
currently serves as the head of Higher Heights and is focused on
mobilizing and electing Black women across the country.

Stacey Plaskett (US-VI) just made history as the first
limited-voting member to serve as counsel on an impeachment
trial. Gabrielle Jackson is the Co-Founder and Mental Wellness
Director of the UndocuBlack Network and uses her Trinidadian
roots to focus on the mental health and wellbeing of Black
immigrants nationwide.

Caribbean-American women have made their mark in many
fields, but especially in the world of politics. Team Clarke is
proud of Yvette’s heritage, and we’re working every day to
preserve the legacies of the women that came before her and
ensure the futures of the women that will follow.

Happy Women’s History Month,

Team Clarke
