We scored a major victory yesterday when Congress passed much-needed COVID-19 relief -- which included a temporary version of Suzan's Child Tax Credit expansion.

Now we have an opportunity to make these direct payments to parents and families permanent.

For months, Suzan has fought to create a lasting solution that will support the middle class during the COVID-19 pandemic and ensure families can get back up on and stay on their feet as we recover, all while lifting 4 million children out of poverty -- and her legislation will do just that.

Just last week, President Joe Biden expressed his support for making Suzan's Child Tax Credit expansion and making direct payments to parents permanent.

Here's a glimpse at what Suzan's bill would do to help families: *

- Give families up to $300 a month ($3,600 a year) per child for each child under the age of 6

- Give families up to $250 a month ($3,000) per child for each child between the ages of 6 and 17

- Make the child tax credit fully refundable, meaning that all low-income families would receive the full amount and ensure that the money is going directly into the hands of folks who need it most

Plus, in addition to the millions of children it would lift out of poverty across the country, it would cut Washington's childhood poverty rate by 40%.
