Friend,

There is a lot happening at both the federal and state level this week.
But we must take time to recognize the history being made with President
Biden’s nomination of former Rep. Deb Haaland to lead the Department of
the Interior! This is the subject of this week’s episode of Out in Front
with Annette, at the usual time, this Thursday, [ [link removed] ]February 25th, at
5:00pm on Facebook Live.

Her nomination, if confirmed, would make Haaland the first Indigenous
cabinet secretary, and more importantly, the first Indigenous to lead the
Interior, a federal department that works closely with Indigenous
communities to conserve lands of cultural and natural significance.

To celebrate, we will be hearing from Indigenous leaders from across the
state about why Indigenous leadership in this role is so important and
what it means for the care of our public lands and the Bureau of Indian
Affairs. Our panel includes:

* Taylor Patterson and Jonnette Paddy with Native Voters Alliance,
Nevada
* Amber Torres, Chairwoman of the Walker River Paiute Tribe
* Stacey Montooth, Executive Director of the Nevada Indian Commission
* Rulon Pete, Executive Director of the Las Vegas Indian Center
* Danneka Smith of the Western Shoshone Nation
* And Emily Woodall with the League of Conservation Voters

[ [link removed] ]Join us on our Facebook page at 5:00pm tomorrow and bring your
questions about the nomination and protecting the environment under this
new administration.

Look forward to (virtually) seeing you,

Will Pregman
Communications Director
