Supporter,
The confirmation process for the barrier-breaking Deb Haaland as Interior Secretary officially begins in the Senate tomorrow.
We are seizing this opportunity for bold action for our climate and communities. As we see time and again — most recently in Texas and across the midwest, but in every community across the country — the climate crisis is here and exacting a very real, devastating toll on loved ones.
Leadership matters. It's why President Biden's climate team is so critical. If confirmed, Deb Haaland and the rest of Biden's administration can help deliver a climate agenda that meets the needs of the crisis we are facing. If confirmed, they would fundamentally change who's at the table forming environmental policy.
This is what you and millions of others have worked so hard for — all of the opportunities to put our country on a different path and deliver real progress, and to begin to see plans that meet our bold vision. But it's still just the start, the unlocking of potential. The climate crisis isn't waiting, so neither can we.

We've always known that this work is bigger than one day, one week, one person. Our monthly members ensure we stay at the table negotiating for bold action. We won't get what we don't ask for. And when our teams are in the room, we know we're being listened to because of the millions of Sierra Club members and supporters like you calling for progress.
But the conservative and corporate backlash to the new administration has already started. Republicans in Congress are already using the extreme weather and hurt in Texas — fueled and intensified by the climate crisis — to oppose Deb Haaland's nomination and argue for continued reliance on fossil fuels.
Corporate polluters and the dangerous forces that stop progress and put profit above planet and people aren't disappearing. And they have almost limitless funds to lobby Congress and stage misleading media campaigns.
But we are doing so much together. Through the efforts of ourselves and our allies we helped give Joe Biden and Kamala Harris a decisive mandate to take swift and equitable executive and legislative action to protect communities and the environment — and now with Deb Haaland up for confirmation, it's time to keep the pressure up.
Your commitment now will allow us to do everything we can to secure even more victories, both in this administration and in Congress for enduring legislation. It helps power our legal teams fighting to undo the damage the last four years took on our bedrock environmental laws. It mobilizes support across the country to demonstrate the forceful mandate our elected officials have to act for our climate, air, water, wildlife and communities.
