American Rivers' monthly e-newsletter, The Current
November 2020
Dear John,
Over the past few months of quarantine, I’ve made it a habit to take my boys on
a hike every Monday afternoon. It’s a good way to kick off the week and get
outside after being on screens all day for work and home school. These mini
adventures exploring close-to-home streams and trails have helped keep us
positive and looking forward.
Now, today, we can look forward together, as a nation. The inauguration of
President Biden and Vice President Harris represents a new chapter – and we have
an opportunity to make major advances for healthy rivers and clean water
nationwide.
Our work is critical. Millions of Americans don’t have access to safe, clean
drinking water. Fish and wildlife across the country are threatened by pollution
and dams. Too many rivers are being abused, with serious impacts to ecosystems
and communities.
It’s why we’re kicking off 100 Days of Rivers , a campaign to make sure healthy rivers and clean water are a top priority for
the Biden-Harris administration in their first 100 days. Let’s make this moment
count – for our rivers, each other, and our future.

Our report, “Rivers as economic engines” makes the case for boosting federal
spending on water infrastructure and river restoration to $500 billion over ten
years, and presents a framework for equitable investment that will strengthen
communities nationwide.
In defense of democracy

Healthy rivers need a healthy democracy. That means demanding accountability for
the January 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol, denouncing white supremacy and bigotry
that poisons our country, and recommitting ourselves to justice and equity.
THANK YOU!
