Dr. Hansen urges UK prime minister to adopt carbon fee and dividend
As the United Kingdom prepares to host the 26th United Nations Climate
Change Conference later this year (COP26), climate scientist and CCL
Advisory Board member Dr. James Hansen has sent a letter to British
Prime Minister Boris Johnson urging him to adopt carbon fee and dividend
and set an example for the rest of the world in reducing greenhouse gas
emissions.
"As long as the price of fossil fuels does not include the costs to
society, people suffer for the sake of fossil fuel industry profits,"
Hansen wrote. "The way to rectify this is a rising carbon fee with 100
percent of the funds distributed uniformly to legal residents."
In his letter, Hansen also suggested that Prime Minister Johnson's team
work with CCL-UK to develop the fee-and-dividend policy, known across
the pond as "climate income."
To read the whole letter and some perspective from CCL Global Strategy
Director Joe Robertson, check out the blog post on Citizens' Climate
International's website.

This is not an easy workshop and will require you to look at how
structural racism has impacted you directly (either positively or
negatively). You will gain insights about yourself that will help build
your strength as a climate activist. The first workshop, limited to 200
participants, is this Friday, Feb. 19, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. ET.

Employer matching could double your donation
You've showered us with so much charitable love in 2020 — both by making
generous donations and by volunteering your valuable time. But did you
know that many employers have matching programs that can double, or even
triple, the impact of both types of contributions? Even for donations
from 2020?
And you might be the perfect matchmaker. Now's your chance to give it a
try with your employer and Citizens' Climate Education!
The love you show in designating your time and money to our important
climate solutions work is critical. And there's still time to double or
triple the impact you made in 2020 by having your contributions matched
by your employer. You can search to see if your employer provides gift
matching for donations and/or volunteer hours by clicking the button
below. And if they do, you can fill out the forms directly from there!

Media: Florida chapter featured on NPR station
When the U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced it would support a
"market-based mechanism" to address climate change, CCL offered a press
release template
[link removed]
for chapters to use with local media. Volunteers in Jacksonville sent
one to their local NPR affiliate, and the result was a report on the air
and on the station's website. Volunteer Adam Rosenblatt was quoted in
WJCT's story
[link removed]
: "Endorsing ‘market-based' climate policy indicates support for carbon
pricing, which is the type of policy local members of the Citizens'
Climate Lobby want Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott, as well as Rep.
John Rutherford, to support."
CCL volunteers are regularly activating the " five levers

" of political will in their communities. If you'd like to learn more
about how to pull the media lever like these volunteers did, watch or
read this training on generating news coverage.
