Membership Alert: Scholarship Opportunities/ HEAT deadline approaching Dear Members, Please read below about the League’s opportunities for scholarships for member dependents as well as the HEAT reimbursement program deadline. HEAT The deadline for submitting your Higher Education and Training (HEAT) Fund application is Friday, February 12. HEAT provides monetary assistance to members wishing to further their educational attainment and is open to all members (PII to Lt. II) who are off probation and are in good standing with the League. Please be ready to submit your final grades and a breakdown of fees/tuition at the time you submit your application. The HEAT application is available online here. LAPPL 38th Annual Scholarship Program The League’s Annual Scholarship Awards program application is now available online! The deadline for the online application is February 26, 2021, at 5 p.m. The program is open to college-bound dependents of active, retired or reserve LAPPL members (lieutenant rank and below only), who have held continuous membership in the League for more than one year prior to the scholarship application submission date. Up to $10,000 in scholarships will be awarded each year, for a period of two years with continued proof of meeting minimum GPA standards. To complete the online application, click here. The essay will be administered remotely on Saturday, March 27, 2021. No alternative scheduling arrangements will be made. NO EXCEPTIONS! Essays will be judged on the applicant’s ability to analyze the essay question and then appropriately respond to it in writing. Finalists will be selected by the League Scholarship Committee. Your completed online application and official transcript (digital or physical) must both be received by the League NO LATER than February 26, 2021, at 5 p.m. *Please note, after entering your email, you will be sent a re-connection link to continue the application in the event your session gets interrupted. Butterfly Award We are also excited to announce that the Butterfly Award will be renewed this year, and the donors have set the criteria as follows: The child of an active or retired member who is a senior in high school planning to major in Psychology or Criminology, or a current college student who is majoring in Psychology or Criminology.
