Minnesota’s Vaccine Rollout Strategy: A Socialist Perspective
From the Twin Cities DSA Health Justice Working Group
The Health Justice Working Group interviewed TCDSA member Pat for a socialist perspective on Minnesota’s vaccine rollout strategy. Pat is a PhD student studying occupational and environmental epidemiology at the University of Minnesota, as well as a graduate research assistant. Pat also works in local public health, mostly on “the data side” of the COVID-19 response. We asked Pat about Minnesota’s current vaccine strategy and how we as socialists might work to pressure for a more just rollout. Read more... ([link removed])

Reaching Consensus: Democracy and Rules of Order
Robert’s Rules of Order probably seem to many of us, especially the younger of us, to be ancient and nearly irrelevant. But these rules are comparatively recent, and far more modern and adaptable than you may realize. Read more... ([link removed])

In Case You Missed It
------------------------------------------------------------
With so many great podcasts, articles, books and videos coming out, it's easy to miss something. Here are a few things members have found and loved recently.

Seven months after Floyd unrest, Lake Street business owners optimistic, anxious about rebuilding ([link removed])
TCDSA member Henry Pan's piece in MinnPost about Lake Street progress in rebuilding focuses on BIPOC-owned businesses and gentrification fears. -DKR
America Through Nazi Eyes ([link removed])
Here's a great history piece from Dissent. Shows tons of original document evidence that the first iteration of Nazi "race laws" were inspired and even based on US laws and historical precedents. Hitler really admired the Native American reservation system, the Jim Crow system, the different immigration laws for different skin color folks. I learned new horrifying facts - that a US-born white woman who married an Asian man would be stripped of her citizenship, for instance. -DKR
'Colonialism had never really ended': my life in the shadow of Cecil Rhodes ([link removed])
Simukai Chigudu of Zimbabwe, leader of the Rhodes Must Fall movement at Oxford University, weaves his own personal history into the history of colonialism in Africa and the beginnings of the 21st Century decolonization movement. -DKR
The Ad-Based Internet Is About to Collapse. What Comes Next? ([link removed])
Apparently, the market for internet ads, which thanks to monopolies and removing the public funding infrastructure back in the early 1990s pretty much IS the internet, is a big fragile bubble that will burst at any moment. This piece offers three scenarios for what could take its place, which you could call the evil, the neutral, and the good. -DKR
Know Your Enemy: Did It Happen Here? ([link removed])
Really deep, illuminating discussion into the quest of whether Donald Trump is a fascist or not. The hosts go deep into the study of fascism, the theories behind it, and what the word means in our contemporary, American setting. I personally came away with a changed perspective- I think Trump is a fascist, but also that signifier isn't nearly as important as we make it out to be. -NR
How Reddit Is Tanking Wall Street Hedge Funds ([link removed])
I couldn’t find a good analysis in print from a progressive perspective, but there are plenty of videos about the GameStop story. This video by Kyle Kulinski is really good at explaining it. -ST
Who’s Afraid of the Lower Birth Rate? ([link removed])
Jenny Brown draws in the lines connecting population growth to profit, and explaining all the contradictory moves of the power structure from the end of the "baby boom" in the mid-1960s to now. -DKR
Stop the game – I want to get off! ([link removed])
Found this latest analysis on the gamestop stock situation by Michael Roberts. Fairly decent, concise overview on the situation from a Marxist perspective. -P
The Man Who Realigned Labor ([link removed])
Great obituary of former AFL-CIO president John Sweeney, who was a DSA member (!) -NR
On Organized Democratic Conflict ([link removed])
A Columbus DSA member reminds us that conflict in a democratic organization is good, actually.-TMW
