If there was any doubt that the GOP is still Donald Trump's party, it was put to rest this week.

House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy met with Trump on Thursday in Mar-a-Lago to discuss plans to flip the House in 2022.

After the disgraceful way Trump ended his presidency, it speaks volumes that Republicans are still counting on him for support. They're going to double down on Trump's extremism, lawlessness, and lies because they think it will motivate his base to turn out next year.

And the scariest part? They could be right. So we need to work extra hard -- starting now -- to grow our own coalition, make our case to voters, and develop the infrastructure for a competitive midterm environment.
