In Rep. Ayanna Pressley's words, “the death penalty is unjust and inhumane, and we must use every tool at our disposal to abolish it once and for all. That's why Rep. Espaillat and I led more than 40 of our colleagues in calling on AG-nominee Garland to use his authority to dismantle the federal death penalty.”

In its last days in office, the Trump administration prioritized executing as many Americans as possible, pushing through three times more federal executions than our country had seen in the last six decades.

While Biden has pledged to halt federal executions, progressives don't think it's enough. That's why Rep. Pressley is calling for more expansive action to abolish the death penalty entirely, and Senate Democrats have introduced legislation to do just that.
