Heart Month and #29DaysofHeart
February is Heart Month. Be sure to follow WomenHeart on social media.
Our annual #29DaysofHeart campaign will run throughout the month in
honor of Black History Month, highlighting the impact of heart disease
on African-American women. In addition, we will host a Twitter chat on
Diversity in Medical Research at 2:00pm ET on Wednesday, February 10
in partnership with Temple Health, as well as participate in online
events for Heart Failure Awareness Week and Heart Valve Disease
Awareness Day (including an online celebration on Monday, February 22
at 1:00pm ET). Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to get
more information about those events.

Convening on Missed and Delayed Diagnosis of Heart Disease in Women
WomenHeart, in partnership with the Society to Improve Diagnosis in
Medicine (SIDM), hosted a Convening on Missed and Delayed Diagnosis of
Heart Disease in Women on January 27, 2021. Funded by an award through
the Eugene Washington PCORI Engagement Awards program, an initiative
of the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI), the
convening brought together clinicians, researchers, advocates,
government officials and patients - including nine WomenHeart
Champions - to discuss interventions and potential research
questions to address the challenge. There will be a report generated
and available this spring.

Voices of Heart Failure
Throughout November and December, WomenHeart released videos of three
WomenHeart Champions who shared their experiences of living with heart
failure. Susan shared what it was like after receiving the diagnosis
and how she learned to prioritize herself so she could thrive. Based
on her experience with a delayed diagnosis, Starr shared her advice on
how women can advocate for themselves and why she wants to be a voice
for women who may be facing a similar journey. Porothea shared how she
found sisterhood through WomenHeart after her diagnosis, which has
helped her to live a full life. The videos are part of the How We
Fight campaign, which is nationally sponsored and supported by
Novartis, and are available here.
