Friend,

This is what climate leadership looks like.

Yesterday, President Biden signed a series of executive orders that will mobilize all of government to clean up pollution in frontline communities, tackle the climate emergency, and address the biodiversity crisis by protecting public lands which provide habitat for imperiled wildlife.

Among the orders was an immediate pause to future federal fossil fuel leasing on public lands. Currently, federal fossil fuel activities contribute to nearly 25% of U.S. emissions, so this pause is a critical step toward transforming public lands from being part of the climate problem to part of the solution. President Biden also signed orders committing to investing in communities of color that are disproportionately harmed by pollution, and centering justice and equity in decision-making.  Yesterday, President Biden corrected course and put our country on a path towards a pollution-free, clean energy future, and restored U.S. climate leadership on the world stage.

President Biden is pursuing the most ambitious climate and environmental justice agenda in U.S. history. He is taking these actions because of people like you who raised your voice, signed petitions, and marched in rallies to save this planet we all call home.

Friend, your advocacy and outreach made this happen. And now we have momentum on our side. President Biden has taken remarkable strides in just his first week in office, but we still have so far to go. We not only must reverse the damage done over the past four years, but also move our society toward transformative change to create a healthy, functional, and just world.

We will be in touch soon with how you can help us work with the Biden administration to achieve these ambitious goals, but in the meantime, I just want to say thank you for your partnership.

Onward,
Abigail Dillen
President, Earthjustice
