Inauguration is defined as “setting in motion anything of importance or dignity”. It is not an arrival or destination. It is a beginning - an initiation into a new chapter for our nation.
But it is not just President Biden and Vice President Harris that are asked to take the oath. All of us are called to task - to show up every day for the future that we all deserve. It is not enough to get politicians elected. We the people must self govern. We must make our will known and work to see it through. President Biden called on us when he said:
Let’s add our own work and prayers to the unfolding story of this nation.
Today, we celebrate. Tomorrow, we get to work.
Join us tomorrow for The People’s Inauguration as we join the new administration in making a commitment to do our part to heal and rebuild America.  [[link removed]]

On Day one, President Biden moves to undo Trump’s toxic legacy [[link removed]] with 17 executive actions including rejoining Paris agreement, repealing the travel ban, rescinding the 1776 commission, stopping the border wall, enforcing a mask mandate and more. [click to tweet] [[link removed]]
Now the hard part begins. This is not a time to sit on the sidelines while the government takes charge. This is a time to self-govern like we mean it. And the people have demands for Biden’s first 100 days. Here’s what we’re asking for:
Expand COVID relief now [[link removed]]: the Biden plan doesn’t go far enough to ensure that the most vulnerable are centered in relief efforts. Add your name to demand that they increase survival checks and create a pathway to citizenship for essential workers, DACA recipients and TPS holders.
Stop evictions and deportations: Since the start, COVID has disproportionately impacted working class and immigrant communities. Demand that our leaders give immediate relief to people at risk of losing their home [[link removed]].
Defund the police: Tell congress to pass The Breath Act [[link removed]]which calls us to divest taxpayer dollars from brutal and discriminatory policing and invest in a new vision of public safety.
Convict. Expel. Investigate: We cannot allow Trump and Republican politicians who have stoked violence, fomented sedition and spread a culture of fear and hate to evade responsibility. Sign on to demand accountability. [[link removed]]

In “The Hill We Climb” [[link removed]] poet laureate Amanda Gorman asks “where can we find light in this never-ending shade?” It is a poem as powerful as its poet, that captures both the peril and possibility of this moment. She reminds us that we do not move forward by forgetting the past, but by including it. “Somehow, we do it” she says. “Somehow, we’ve weathered and witnessed, a nation that isn’t broken, but simply unfinished”. How will we write the next chapter of the story of our nation? Here’s the lesson plan [[link removed]] to dig deeper and get started.

The past few months have left many disheartened and fearful. The attack on Black lives has generated anger and frustration. We need a moment of stillness. Black trans folks, especially, deserve some peace. Here’s a care package from the Transgender Law Center. [[link removed]]
